A fossil crocodilian from Egypt has been reclassified as Herugavialis cairensis after researchers examined its anatomy using CT scans. The ancient skull had previously been assigned to a different group.
The research, published in Royal Society Open Science, revisits a fossil from the Middle Eocene rocks near Cairo. Those rocks are also associated with the Great Sphinx.
