PSL fans can separate the player-retention framework from confirmed team lists. In its 25 January 2026 auction workshop announcement, the PCB said franchises could retain up to seven players for PSL 12 following PSL 11. It also set out two-year contracts for players selected for PSL 11.
The same announcement described a grand auction after PSL 12, with up to five retentions. These are different stages of the framework, rather than competing limits for the same season.
The PCB’s 8 October update said further retention, trade, direct-signing and auction announcements would follow. This explainer does not confirm any franchise’s final PSL 12 squad; readers should check those forthcoming official notices for team-by-team selections.
