Pakistan's Academy Selection Committee includes artist Misha Japanwala and actor and creator Tamkenat Mansoor alongside established cinema professionals. Deputy Chairperson Sana Zahra Jafri explained that the panel was chosen to bring different generations and creative perspectives to the process.
The committee selected Mohammed Ali Naqvi's documentary Hanging by a Wire as Pakistan's submission for the 2027 Academy Awards. Naqvi stepped aside from his committee role for the selection cycle to submit his film. A national submission is distinct from an Oscar nomination.
