News brief · Reported 7 October 2026
The International Monetary Fund and Pakistan have reached a staff-level agreement following reviews of Pakistan's lending programmes. The IMF announcement covers the fourth review under the Extended Fund Facility and the third review under the Resilience and Sustainability Facility.
If its Executive Board approves the reviews, approximately $1.21 billion could become available. A staff agreement is an important procedural step, but the money has not been released simply because negotiators have reached an agreement. The IMF announced the development on October 7.
