The Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) has ordered the temporary closure of the weekly markets in sectors H-9 and G-6, effective from Friday, October 16, 2026. The decision was made to ensure the completion of fire safety arrangements and the acquisition of necessary clearances from the relevant authorities.
According to a notification issued by the Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA), both markets will remain closed until foolproof fire prevention protocols are established. The reopening of these venues is contingent upon receiving fire safety clearance from the Capital Emergency Services of the Capital Development Authority (CDA).
The DMA has formally requested the Director General of Capital Emergency Services to conduct inspections at the two markets to verify the completion of all protective measures. The notification, issued by Director Municipal Administration Mohammad Tariq Latif with the approval of the MCI Chief Officer, emphasizes that the markets can only resume operations once official clearance is granted.
The Metropolitan Corporation has expressed its expectation for a prompt resolution and response regarding the safety verification process at these locations.
