Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has addressed recent social media criticism after he was mocked for responding to an AI-generated image of Hollywood star Marilyn Monroe. Speaking on a private television program, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader dismissed the backlash, asserting that he personally manages his social media presence.
The controversy stemmed from a post on X where Asif participated in a riddle involving an AI image of Monroe. The challenge asked users to identify an item that was historically out of place for the 1950s. Asif identified a smartwatch in the image, though he has since deleted his response. Critics on social media questioned the minister's engagement with such content while holding a high-level government office.
During his appearance on the programme Naya Pakistan, Asif stated that he operates his account himself, adding that he leads a normal life despite his prominent position. He argued that being the defence minister should not require him to abandon his identity or refrain from light-hearted interactions.
Asif questioned the logic behind the criticism, noting that he was simply answering a riddle regarding what was amiss in a 1956 setting. He emphasized that he uses his social media platforms for personal expression and enjoyment, maintaining that he remains a normal human being regardless of his official duties.
