Russian President Vladimir Putin offered help toward ending the Middle East conflict during a meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Thursday, 8 October. AFP reported the encounter ahead of a Commonwealth of Independent States summit in Avaza, Turkmenistan.
Putin’s remarks expressed Russia’s diplomatic support for Iran. The report did not announce an agreed ceasefire or a settlement between the parties to the war.
The meeting adds another diplomatic exchange to continuing efforts around the conflict. An offer to assist negotiations should be read separately from a signed agreement or a confirmed change in military operations.
